Yize Shi Spring 2017 Blog

I was glad I could participate in the competition of Summer Tasting Soirée with Almost Home Kids organization, on June 15th. Almost Home Kids (AHK) is an organization that helps kids whoever in need of health care and their mission is to “provide transitional care in a home-like setting to children with complicated health needs, training for their families and respite care.”

The competition was between 5 culinary students. We each represent a child that lived in AHK, and cook the food which was inspired from their region cuisine. I was glad to represent a baby girl called Angeria Lui, and cook Chinese food that represents her family. Since I’m from China, I think it was a best fit for me to represent her, and Chinese food.

I made a dish called Pearl Ball, it is basically a meat ball covered with sticky rice. This is a dish that I really liked when I was a kid. Even though I didn’t win the competition, I was still happy that I participated in this meaningful event, which to help AHK for their fundraising and to help those children who are need.
