One Degree Down One More To Go
by James Payne, June 11, 2018
After a year of Monday-Friday culinary class, I am so happy to say that I finished my Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts! There were some stressful times during the journey, but it was worth it. Now that I have completed my culinary degree, I have started my Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Restaurant Management. After starting this first quarter away from the kitchen, I realized that this may be a harder journey then I thought. With cooking, when I would “study” for a test, most times I would be cooking to practice my skills. So after I would “study” I could eat my work. With Hospitality, I don’t get to cook as much, but that hasn’t stopped me from eating. HaHa. Also, a major difference is the classroom itself. After spending most of my time standing in a kitchen, it’s hard to sit in a classroom for two hours taking notes and reading information. The transition has been weird so far, but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it soon.
What I am most excited about for the Hospitality program is my internship. I’ve always been in the kitchen with the jobs that I have had in the past. Except for a short time when I was a server and then moved to the kitchen soon after. Ha. While my internship is still another four quarters away, I’m always planning for the future. I can’t wait to see what’s in store is for me next.
