Abigail Urbano Winter 2018 Blog

This past quarter was a memorable learning experience. A project we had to focus on for my event practicum class was designing a tablescape for this year’s Chicago Flower & Garden show.  The theme this year was “FLOWERTALES: Every Garden has a Story to Tell”. We chose to design our tablescape based off the book The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. There were four areas we were able to choose to be a part of; which was either the design, implementation, social media, or budget team.

I was a part of the social media team and we chose to focus on putting our media out through Instagram. It’s not as easy as it sounds, it’s different when you’re just posting on your personal account for fun. It’s not just about posting pretty photos, it’s what comes along with that.  What photo are we choosing to post and why? What should the caption be, what hashtags? Who should we tag? Who should we post about and give a shout out to? Who would have thought how many aspects need to be considered when posting one photo!?

So there’s that. Our design came out beautiful and I’d like to give a shout out to my classmates who put in so much energy and passion into putting together such a beautiful tablescape!
