Regina Daugherty Summer 2016 Blog Submission
By: Regina Daugherty, Summer 2016
This summer during my internship at Underwriters Laboratories (UL), I had the opportunity to assist the senior meeting planners with the planning and on-site registration of the 2016 LPGA International Crown. I was able to be an integral part of the entire tournament from beginning to end. One exciting aspect was being able to stay at the Lincolnshire Marriot Hotel, which was the official hotel for the tournament, enabling me to be on-site and the first contact for attendees.
Eight teams representing eight different countries participated. Some of the players were going to continue on to the Olympics after the tournament. Two hundred thousand people attended the tournament, and over 1500 were UL invited guests including customers, UL employees, C-level executives and VIP’s. The tournament lasted six days and comprised of a Pro-Am, a reception (which was attended by the players), a tour of UL and an executive board meeting.
Prior to the tournaments opening day, I was the project manager over registration. I created name badges for C-level executives and VIP’s for the UL tour and board meeting; I also prepared the attendee manifest for the board meeting and pre-registered all guest through UL’s security. On-site, I handled registration and VIP ground transportation. I had the opportunity to meet CEO’s from various companies and interact with the players.
The tournament gave me the chance to touch on many of the areas that I plan to incorporate in my meeting planner career. I would also like to produce large/special events such as this one. I hope to have more opportunities like this in the future.
